Double braid rope is the most common type of rope for boating and sailing. The core provides most of the strength and can be polyester, Dyneema or a blend of other fibers. The cover is typically polyester and provides a nice grip to the hand, away from the load carrying core. Higher tech ropes will have a cover blended with technora or other abrasion resistant fibers to give the rope a tougher resistance to wear.
